Meditation has been practiced by thousands of people across many different cultures for thousands of years. It has by all means stood the test of time. The question you may be asking yourself is, why are so many people drawn to it? Why has it been around for so long and how has it helped thousands – or quite possibly millions – of diverse people?

1. Start your day off with a clean, fresh slate

Meditation is commonly performed first thing in the morning by those who have a daily dedicated practice. It is called a practice because it is a learning process where you must practice and develop your skills over time.

Incorporating meditation into your morning routine means starting your day off with a fresh and clean slate. Meditation offers you the opportunity to let go of the events, the stresses, and the emotions of the day before. You get to choose what you want to bring into this new day and what kind of day you want it to be.

When you begin your day with a positive, optimistic mindset, you will be equipped to handle whatever happens to you with more strength and courage. Choosing to be positive is not always the easy path to take. Life will test you. However, when your intention is to remain optimistic, you can handle whatever life has to throw at you for the rest of the day. 

2. Become more mindful

It is not easy for a lot of people to shut out the rest of the world and sit with their thoughts. This is probably the exact reason why many people struggle to meditate and end up giving up their daily practice. 

In meditation, you are practicing mindfulness. You are sitting with yourself in the present moment. From here is where possibilities are born. 

However, if you struggle with self-love, this can be difficult at first. You will be forced to face your inner demons, your fears, your insecurities, your past, etc. This is called shadow work. When you inevitably overcome these shadows with a daily meditation practice, you begin to find the love that exists within the present moment.

There is a light within you that you can tune into with mindfulness. There is peace and acceptance. 

When you meditate every day, you bring this light into all aspects of your life. You become more mindful in your daily routine and in that mindful headspace, you find the love that has always been there in your life. In the small things, the kind strangers, little acts of kindness, and in your loved ones.

When you meditate every day, you begin to feel more grateful. Finding the love that exists in the present moment will bring to light all that you have to be grateful for. You will have a newfound appreciation for your loved ones and everything you have.

You will begin to feel blessed and lucky to be alive. Gratitude is associated with many different physical and mental health benefits. 4. Connect with something Higher

Whether you are religious, spiritual, or have no idea what is going on in the universe, meditation has been attributed for thousands of years for connecting us with something Higher. You can call it God, the Universe, Source, the Creator, or whatever you’d like. 

When you meditate every day, you strengthen the connection between you and the numinous. 

The beautiful thing about meditation is that it does not matter what religion you are or aren’t. This connection exists and you will feel it during meditation.

5. Live a balanced and aligned life

When we meditate every day, we become more balanced. This means that we aren’t being pulled down by our negative thoughts or insecurities, and we are no longer confused which direction to take in life. When we’re balanced and aligned, we walk confidently down any path we wish to take, knowing that we are equipped for whatever happens.

If we misstep, we can easily re-align ourselves and continue on.
